Rainforest butterfly in Costa Rica found in Veragua - Tetrisia florigera

After 98 years of remaining hidden, costa rican scientist found again in our forests specimens of the butterfly Tetrisia florigera . This species had been seen for the last time in 1911 in San José by entomologist William Schaus. However, Schaus (1858-1942) never said clearly in what part of San José he saw the butterfly or if he learned about its habits, even though, according to his records, he had discovered it at the beginning of the 1870 decade. The specimen was discovered by José Montero, a researcher for the National Institute of Biodiversity (INBio). Montero found it in the Veragua Rainforest Research & Adventure Park, located 12 kilometers before the entrance to Liverpool, in the province of Limón. Veragua defines itself as the first ecotourism adventure and research park in the country: while people can visit the the frog exhibit or take the rainforest tram ride, the park pays the salaries of two INBio researchers, Montero said.
